Garfield is having a holiday sing-along in the gym led by Mr. Stapleford. The event starts at 11:00 and should last approximately 30 minutes. Parents and families are welcomed to attend!
Students have spent time the last week learning about music through songs related to Thanksgiving. A few of our favorites have been "A Turkey Named Bert", "Looking for Turkeys" and "5 Fat Turkeys are We". Students also learned about steady beat and phrases by learning the line dance "Turkey in the Straw". Fun was had by all as we learned to do-si-do and peel the banana. I hope everyone enjoys the holiday break.
Fifth grade students have been hard at work the last couple of weeks. They started off by creating rhythms using Halloween themed erasers. Next the create their own xylophone piece by assigning notes to each of the rhythms. I am looking forward to hearing all their wonderful compositions this week!
First grade students just finished a unit learning about high and low sounds. Students played step bells (see picture) to "Ebeenzer Sneezer". In another lesson they added instruments to the book "Mortimer". Students had lots of fun singing Mortimer's song and adding high/low sounds to when characters of the story went up and down the stairs. Check out the new school wide song we are learning! You can find the link here. The language promotes the 7 Habits and creates pride in Garfield Elementary School!
I am super excited to be making music at Garfield Elementary! Garfield is full of great students and I look forward to getting them more throughout the school year.
"Leader in Me" does not just apply to the classroom. We are implementing it in music too! If you're unfamiliar with the program please check out their website. Here's a look at what we're learning in music right now:
In addition, we're also learning several songs for Constitution Day! |
